I’ve passed this cafe numerous times while out and about in Chatswood and always seen it bustling with customers. With an old friend visiting Sydney up from Canberra, I decided that we may as well check the place out over a leisurely brunch.

Houlihans right on the main strip of Chatswood mall, with both indoor and outdoor seating, and my favourite cafe feature: all-day breakfast!

There’s been a lot of praise on Urbanspoon about their coffee being “the best in Chatswood”, so I decided to see if it lived up to this reputation by ordering a Flat White with my regulatory hazelnut syrup ($4.30):

The Campos coffee was smooth, rich and deliciously creamy. It was a pretty darn good coffee. My friend went with an Iced Coffee ($5.00), and I couldn’t resist taking a photo of him with it, as he looked so good with it I wouldn’t be surprised if he could sell it!

Food-wise, he selected the Pancakes ($13.50) which came with maple syrup, jam, and vanilla ice cream.

I’m not a huge fan of jam with my pancakes, preferring something a little lighter like a compote, but he devoured it with ease and proclaimed it delicious. Meanwhile, I was struggling to finish my generous serving of the Open-faced Omelette ($4.50), with roast tomato, spinach and gruyere cheese.

I liked the presentation of it arriving to the table in its own little frying pan, but I did find the omelette a little too dry around the edges. The whole roast tomato was embedded in the centre of the omelette and the lovely acidity of it cut through the creaminess of the gruyere cheese.

Overall, speedy service, great coffee and an all-day-breakfast menu makes this place a keeper. Definitely going on the list as one of my regular local catch-up haunts!

  1. Was the omelette $4.50 or $14.50? Frypan presentation is always fun, and those pancakes look so light and fluffy!

    1. Oops thanks for picking up on that! $14.50 🙂

  2. For some reason I can’t quite picture where this is! Is it the one next to Bread Kingdom?

    1. Argh now I can’t think of the name of the Asian bakery! I’m pretty sure it’s that one, just around the corner from Gelatissamo.
