Being told to be at work at 8.00 am is always particularly painful, but not so much when it’s for a team breakfast in the beautiful Hyde Park.
Metro St James is located just behind the main St James train station exit, and busy in the mornings with a few people enjoying their breakfast and suits dropping in and out with their coffee orders. Metro St James actually ran a promotion earlier this year where during the month of June they encouraged people to visit the cafe and lock lips for a complimentary coffee.
Maybe not at a work team breakfast though! The Big Healthy Breakfast ($20.50) was a popular option with many of us, which consisted of poached free range eggs, hot smoked salmon, sprouts, roast tomato, ricotta, hummus and dukkah on soy quinoa toast:
The combination of the various healthy elements tasted incredible, particularly the hummus with dukkah, which added a beautiful crunch element. And of course you’ve got to line up for the money shot…
Poached egg perfection! It was unlike any breakfast I have ever had. I also had a skim latte with my Big Healthy Breakfast:
Some of the others didn’t feel like anything too substantial and so had selected the Spelt & honey banana bread with whipped vanilla ricotta ($8):
or the Seasonal fruit salad with Ruby & Roys natural yoghurt and fruit compote ($10):
The boss, in the meantime, had chosen the House-made baked beans with poached free range eggs, feta and sourdough ($16.50):
Service was friendly, with one waiter in particular having a cute French accent. I would definitely come back to try the baked beans or to have another big healthy breakfast. With the early morning sun shining through the trees into this little cafe, it’s a little spot of paradise amongst the bustle of the city.
